Two monsters this week, both variants of the common Griffon. The Alce serves the role of an exotic mount for the Endjinn, yes I'm setting up to post my Chevalier. The Keythong is a variant for use in dungeon encounters.
GRIFFON, ALCE AND KEYTHONG
*Adjusted down from 2400 to reflect its more like a horse to train. The majestic griffin is said the be the result of magical research from the days of the creators. Combining the Lion and Eagle, two of the grandest creatures, has led to some interesting offshoots. Many Griffons are now pests raiding settlements for horses or accosting caravans for their beasts of burden. Several other wingless variants exist in the Shattered Vale, the Alce and the Keythong. The rules for griffon nests and eggs applies to these offshoots.
Alce: These beasts are more steady and reliable lacking the wings and independence of the griffin but retaining its majesty and strength. They are slighly smaller than griffons comming in at a similar length, but having muscle for running, not flying, giving them a weight of 420lb. While meat eaters they tend towards smaller animals such as rabbits, rats or chickens for their meals. They are often trained as cavalry units, and while reasonably intelligent retain the independant streak of their winged bretheren.
Alce have a strong bond with the Endjinn race as one of the Endjinns original functions under the creators was to tend their stables housing them. Endjinn apply their “constructed nature” bonus to interactions with Griffons and Alce, this also applies to training them. This relationship extends partially to Griffons for which endjine recieve a +1 reaction roll only.
Keythong: These lean wingless griffons are covered in course fur and feathers with porcupine like spikes adorning their backs. They lack the magesty of Griffons and the pleasant temprement of the Alce, being mean, viscious and agressive in nature. While a similar size to griffons they are scrawny weighing only 400lb. It is hard to tell if they prefer the same diat as the more magestic griffon as they seem to be always hungry and enthused to eat anything that passes them by. They are also quite teritorial and have been known to dwell underground carving out sections of abandoned catacombs as their own. The Keythongs spikes, or quills, render them immune to grab an entagle attacks that would otherwise restain them.
